Day 24: Praying for “His Talk”

Lord, You tell us a lot in Your Word about our words, and so I bring my husband’s speech to you today. On the day of judgment, he will give an account for every worthless word he speaks (Matt 12:36). I pray that nothing that comes out of his mouth would defile him (Matt 15:18) May his words be wise and win favor rather than foolish and self-destructive (Ecc 10:12). I pray that he is not foolishly hasty in his speech (Prov 29:20), or perverse, breaking the spirit of others, but instead help him be wise and healing like a life-giving tree (Prov 15:4). Ultimately, may his words and thoughts be acceptable in Your sight, Oh Lord, our sheltering rock and our redeemer (Ps 19:14).

Eph 4:29

You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Ecc 10:12

The words of a wise person win him favor, but the words of a fool are self-destructive.

Matt 15:18

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a person.

Eph 4:21

You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk.

Phil 2:14-15

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish though you live in a crooked and perverse society, in which you shine as lights in the world.

Prov 29:20

Do you see someone who is hasty in his words?  There is more hope for a fool than for him. 

Prov 15:4

Speech that heals is like a life-giving tree, but a perverse tongue breaks the spirit.

Matt 12:34

Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say anything good, since you are evil? For the mouth speaks from what fills the heart.

Good morning!  Repentance was one of the Spiritual Disciplines practiced regularly by Christians long ago that unfortunately has been lost on our generation.  It really needs to be continued now.  I pray for all of us to be humble as God reveals areas that need to be changed in our own lives.
